What to check with the rental office

This is the amount you pay yourself if there is damage. On Tenerife it runs from €300 to €2,000, depending on the rental office and the bike. At the same daily rate, it is the biggest difference between two offers.

Ask whether the excess can be reduced and what that costs per day. Whether it is worth it is in the deposit guide.

The security deposit is blocked on your credit card, not charged. On our vehicle list it runs from €100 to €800, depending on the bike.

The card has to be in the rider's name. Maestro and plain debit cards are often refused. That rarely appears on the offer page, usually only in the terms. If you only have a debit card, ask first.

A helmet is included at the rental offices we know. Try it on before you ride off and ask for another one if it presses. A second helmet for a passenger usually costs extra.

A lock isn't always handed over automatically. Ask for one: in case of theft, insurance often only pays if the vehicle was locked.

Most rental offices don't allow you to take the vehicle to another island. Without explicit permission you are not insured on the ferry to La Gomera or over there.

Usually 21 to 23, depending on the rental office and the bike. For larger motorbikes two to three years of experience in the right category are often required as well. A few offices ask for category A rather than A2.
