A 125cc scooter is the best value for money on Tenerife. You sit upright, the storage under the seat swallows a helmet and jacket, and in the city traffic of Santa Cruz or Los Cristianos you always find a gap. For the coastal roads in the south and short trips inland the power is plenty.
One thing to be clear about: the Spanish rule that a category B car licence held for at least three years lets you ride a 125 applies only to licences issued in Spain. National add-ons stop at the border. The UK CBT and the German B196 code count only at home. In Spain you would be riding without a valid category and without insurance cover, so we advise against it even where a rental office accepts it. For a 125 you need A1 on your licence.
For the steep climb to Teide a 50cc scooter is too weak. Take at least a strong 125 or a bigger bike here.
