- Same rule here: cooler up top than down below. Vilaflor (1,400m) can be fresh in the morning, T-shirt weather again at the coast.
- The TF-51 is popular with cyclists. Overtake only where you can clearly see ahead, with plenty of room.
How the ride feels
From Costa Adeje a short stretch on the TF-1, then onto the TF-51. The road climbs steadily in well-sighted bends to Vilaflor, perfect for easing in and never demanding. With altitude comes the forest: Canary pine, broad trunks, the ground deep in needles. It smells of resin and sun. The surface is clean, the traffic light.
In Vilaflor, the highest village in Spain at 1,400 metres, the square is yours. The best café con leche of the ride waits here, with a slice of calm under old trees. If you fancy it, carry on a little further up the TF-21 to the Mirador Paisaje Lunar, take in the pumice towers of the moonscape, then turn around.
The way back is pure pleasure: downhill through the pines, the sea already in view, the temperature rising with every metre of altitude you give back. You’re back in Adeje in under an hour, with that good feeling of having had mountain and sea in a single morning. Ideal as a first day, to get to know your bike and the island.
