What does it cost to rent a motorbike on Tenerife?
Between the advertised daily rate and what finally lands on your card there are several items. Here they all are.
Daily rates by vehicle class
Entry prices for short rentals, taken from the vehicle list for Tenerife.
- Scooters and 125s: from €36 a day.
- Naked and all-rounders (A2): from €63.
- Adventure and travel enduros (A2): from €63.
- Sport (A2): from €63.
- Cruiser and custom (A2): from €63.
- Touring and comfort (A): from €85.
These are the cheapest entries on the list, not the price of every model. The rental office gives you today’s price. Few rental offices publish prices openly, most only once you’re inside the booking flow. When someone quotes you a price, ask whether insurance and taxes are already in it.
The season shifts everything
Tenerife has no off-season in the northern European sense, but it does have a clear demand peak.
November to March is high season. Historically about 60 per cent of all rentals fell into those five months, with February the strongest. The good machines go early and discounts are rare.
May to July is the quietest stretch. If you’re flexible, that’s when there’s room to negotiate, and emptier roads.
That doesn’t mean the price list changes in winter. It means that in winter you take what’s available, and in early summer you get to choose.
What’s in the daily rate, and what isn’t
Usually included:
- Third-party liability insurance (compulsory by law)
- Collision damage waiver with an excess
- Taxes
- One helmet
- Usually unlimited mileage on daily and weekly rentals
Usually not included:
- Reducing the excess (from about €7 a day)
- A second helmet for a pillion
- Gloves, rain gear, a lock
- A second rider
- Delivery to your hotel or the airport
- Refuelling, if you don’t return it full
The two items nobody adds up are the deposit and the excess. They aren’t a price, but they move your calculation more than anything else. The deposit guide explains how they work.
Three worked examples
All with the insurance upgrade, no extras, from our vehicle list.
Long weekend, scooter, 3 days
The list shows €99 for three days rather than 3 × €36, plus an upgrade of 3 × €7 = €21. About €120. On top, the security deposit is blocked.
One week, mid-range motorcycle (A2), 7 days
The list shows €350 for seven days, plus an upgrade of 7 × €7 = €49. About €400. So a week costs roughly six times a day, not seven.
One month, scooter, 30 days
Here the long-term rate applies, and you end up clearly below €36 a day. Reliable figures only come from the rental office. More under long-term rental.
Four ways to pay less
- Rent for longer. By far the biggest lever. From a week the daily rate drops at most rental offices, from a month considerably.
- Pick up near where you sleep. Two of the five rental offices sit in the south, three in Puerto de la Cruz, and crossing the island costs a good ninety minutes each way. The saving is in the transfer, not rental offices are, so competition is greater. The north tends to be dearer because the choice is smaller.
- Ask early. In winter the good machines are gone weeks ahead. Turn up late and you pay for what’s left.
- Only take the upgrade you need. Reducing the excess almost always pays. A second helmet for €15 that you never use doesn’t.
What does not pay: taking the cheapest machine when it doesn’t suit your ride. A 125 that barely manages the climb to Teide is no bargain.
